This project came to fruition after 3 1/2 months as the Africa Field Coordinator for The Glow Effect’s non profit, The Glow Effect Centre for Women and Girls. I fell in love with African textiles while living in Cameroon in 2015 and had wanted to start a creative project with them. These bags are the perfect blend of my love for African flair, my passion for the work that The Glow Effect Centre is doing, and my creativity and entrepreneurial personality.
Luckily I have a mother as dedicated to The Glow Effect’s mission as I am and is willing to donate her time to execute my ideas with her exceptional sewing talents. It is her labor of love that makes these bags happen. Nestled in her sewing room in Sequim, Washington, she cuts, embroiders, and puts together all of these bags individually.
We think the embroidery on sturdy canvas is the perfect way for you to show off your personality while having a durable bag that will last. The lining of African fabric is a truly unique and vibrant piece that sets your bag apart from the rest, makes it special, and reminds you of the cause the purchase of the bag is going to.
We hope you will love these bags as much as we do, and that you will be inspired by The Glow Effect and take the initiative to make a change in your own community!
