The Glow Effect Centre for Women and Girls is a unique partnership between the grassroots Association for Rural Women Professionals, led by Jackline Nanyunja, based in Kasaali, Uganda, and The Glow Effect, led by Saren Stiegel in Los Angeles. Since 2015, these exceptional women have worked together to shift female culture by giving women the tools to shape their own destiny rather than let culture shape it for them. The Glow Effect Center for Women and Girls in Uganda is the response to the community of Kasaali’s desire to see a change and The Glow Effect’s inspiration to facilitate it through cross cultural exchange.
At the Glow Effect we know that poverty is not the only limiting factor to growth. We know that if a woman does not believe in herself, this is a limitation that will prevent her from believing in her ability to learn and contribute to change. That is why we tackle the issues that prevent women from recognizing their potential to create personal and global transformation first hand. Our program is based on the fundamentals of confidence and leadership training, self expression, guidance and counseling and business and financial literacy. These core classes are paired with a socioeconomic skill for a holistic approach to sustainable development.
Through the creation of a cooperative, micro finance institution and group savings, we ensure that The Glow Effect Centre will always be a place of cooperation rather than competition. We are encouraging the success of all and not just a few and as such it is able to run democratically and self sufficiently. As the center and its members develop, women are contributing more to society and are investing more in their families. New income generating activities are lessening financial burdens that previously resulted in conflicts and school drops outs. The ripple effect is a decrease in the rate of domestic violence, sexual abuse, early pregnancy and transactional marriage.

Pretty spectacular stuff is happening in Kasaali, which is why it is so important that we finish the construction of the building so the magic can continue to happen and more lives can be impacted. Each bag’s profits ($25 per bag) are one small step toward the completion of the center and support of the programs we offer.
